Like many from his era and place of birth, Zarko Odzakov learned his skills on the streets and only began to hone them competitively in his teens. I had the honour of meeting the man many of his contemporaries regard as the most gifted player of his generation of the inaugural NSL Reunion where he named Vadar Skopje from North Macedonia as his GrassRoots club.
Beginning at the club at the age of 14, Odzakov made his 1st team debut for Zardar at the age of 17, and after a lengthy and winding journey, made his debut for his adopted country of Australia against Taiwan in 1985.
