Despite spending the first 5 years of his footbaling life at Elwood United in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs, it is the neighbouring East Bentleigh SC that Socceroo #525, Roddy Vargas has named as his GrassRoots club.
Roddy's reasoning for his decision was simple, he spent those years at Elwood between the sticks and it wasn't until he got to Bailey Reserve that he truly fell in love with the game. He was lucky also in that not only did he have a passionate mentor in Bruce Gardner but he also came under the tutelage of for Socceroo Angus Drennan.
The defender made the first of his 2 appearances for the national team in an Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia in 2009.
