Sandy Irvine, Socceroo #220, is another to nominate a school from north of Hadrian's Wall as his GrassRoots outfit. Sandy was a member of the 1970 side that toured at the end of the year, making his debut in the 1-0 win over frequent World Cup qualifying rivals Israel.
Sandy has nominated both his primary & high schools as his main GrassRoots influence. Westerton Primary & Northfields High in Aberdeen. As a teen he played at Sunnybank & East End FC, also Aberdeen clubs before moving to the club of the moment Leicester as an 18yr old, then came the move to Melbourne and Juventus in the VSL.
