This post has been a long time coming as I have known for years that Arnie played his junior football at Gwawley Bay, in fact everyone in the Shire knew it, but 6 years after starting this project I finally got to talk to him about it.
Graham Arnold, the Socceroos coach, former A-League Premiership winning coach, former Australian captain and scorer of 19 goals in 56 appearances... began his playing days at one of the smallest clubs in one of the biggest associations in Australia.
Arnie spent 11 years playing at Canberra rd., in fact playing there until he was 16, a time when most future stars would be well entrenched in the state League or NSL/A-League system.
He made his Australian debut against Taiwan after some stellar performances in an extraordinary Sydney Croatia line-up brimming with internationals.
It was a highlight to see him surrounded by fellow players and coaches at lunch this week and just able to be himself. Welcome aboard Arnie.
