To be the first player capped for your country in your position cements your place in history, today's nominee has that distinction. Matilda #10, is Toni McMahon.

Toni was Australia's first goalkeeper in official international football and had the benefit of earning the first of her 10 caps at home, literally 5 miles, as the crow flies, from her home in Bundeena, a scenic village in the Royal National Park south of Sydney on the shores of Port Hacking a short ferry ride from Cronulla.

Toni was one of 3 locals joining Julie Dolan & Jamie Rosman in the squad for the NZ series in 1979, the first 2 matches of which were played at Seymour Shaw Oval, home of the Sutherland State League side.

It is truly an honour to add the name of Toni McMahon to ever growing GFP list.

Hi Greg,
I googled myself - Toni McMahon in Bundeena - and came across your article. What a fabulous thing to do for players that have become "ghosts" to the game. I have my baggy green from the 1979 game if you would like a picture of it? If there is other information you would like, please let me know.

Kind regards
Toni.

Hi I am writing a book for the 50 years of Ballina Soccer Club - I understand you played at our Club in the late 1970's or early 1980's - can you kindly provide a paragraph for me to include. We celebrate 50 years this year

    the author

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
