Tim Cahill

Celebration time !!! Today marks the 300th Australian international to nominate his/her GrassRoots club.

Tim Cahill, Socceroo #476, is too big a name to have only one GrassRoots club & if you read his wonderful biography you'll know why. I was lucky enough speak to Tim at Leichhardt Oval only a stone's throw from his first home ground where he spent a year at Balmain Police Boys SC. He then moved over Parramatta road to Mackie Park & the Marrickville Red Devils. He then honed his skills further at Sydney Olympic. He would not single out any one club as he insisted each had contributed to making him the player he has become.
Tim made his Socceroo debut off the bench against Sth. Africa at Loftus Rd in 2004. He has since gone on to become Australia's all-time leading goalscorer, our first scorer at a World Cup finals, the global ambassador for the Heartbeat of Football & "a Weetbix kid".
Both a pleasure and an honour to welcome aboard, The Headmaster... Tim Cahill.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
