In 1974 David Ratcliffe arrived at Valley Parade as a curly haired apprentice footballer straight from the fields of Batley High School midway between Leeds & Bradford in north Yorkshire, less than 4 years later he was playing at Brisbane City 12,000 miles away but it was at St.George in Sydney where he made his name.
Debuting for Australia against Thailand in 1982 and going on to Captain his country, David shared a formidable partnership with Charlie Yankos, Graham Jennings & Steve O'Connor in Australia's backline, was capped 21 times and scored a solitary goal in the 1985 World Cup Qualifier against Israel at Olympic Park in Melbourne in front of 27,000. His curly mop and no-nonsense attitude made him a crowd favourite.
Still playing as of 2015, its a pleasure to welcome aboard Dave Ratcliffe.
