Ross is another in a long line to hail from that great hotbed of Australian football, Ipswich, in Queensland and the club he has nominated is St.Helens.
Ross owes his goalkeeping career to the non-appearance of his cousin "Slim" to a game, a game in which Ross, normally a right-winger, deputised between the sticks and the rest, as they say, is history. He started at Ebbw Vale as an 8-yr old and stayed with the club until the appearance of Coalstars where he would team up with fellow international Ian Johnston.
Ross came to Sydney after the one and only Joe Marston appeared on his doorstep to sign him for Wests, but the one man he owed a true debt of gratitude to was former Hearts player Graham Kathage, player/coach at Coalstars.
