Richard Johnson began playing in the midfield with the Weston Bears, another of the famous clubs of the NSW Hunter region, as a 5 year old.
Under the watchful eye of his father/coach Roy (an official club legend) he progressed through the ranks until playing U/18s as a 15yr old and marking his proudest moment in GrassRoots football as winning the grand final the same year against Highfields Azzuri under another strong influence, Jack Turnbull Jr.
Richard made his debut for Australia off the bench in 2000 alongside fellow Hunter man Clayton Zane, against the Czech Republic.
After making his name with Watford, Richard has settled in the UK but will always hold his formative years at Bear Park close to his heart.
