One of the final parts of the '74 puzzle falls into place with today's nominator.
Socceroo #235, Peter Ollerton, "Big Ollie", has nominated Blackpool as his GrassRoots club.
Peter learned his football in the streets & parks of Preston and was showcased at William Temple Secondary College and Lancashire schools where he was spotted by Blackpool & offered an apprenticeship. Despite scoring a hat-trick at Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup his future lay 12,000 miles away thanks to Ringwood director Fred Hutchison.
Peter made his Socceroo debut off the bench against Uruguay 1974 & scored in his starting debut in the fateful 2nd match at the SCG, a game I am proud to say I witnessed first hand.
