Nikolai has named the ACT's Tuggeranong Utd as his GrassRoots club where he started alongside Valeri as a 5-yr old in the Bears side. He he played up a year for 6 or 7 and all the while under the tutelage of Walter Valeri, just one of a number of coaches he credits for his development as a player.
Nik made his full Australian debut in 2008 as one of 9 debutants in a friendly against Singapore alongside the likes of Mile Jedinak & another gf opponent, Leigh Broxham. His cap coming almost a year to the day after Valeri won his cap.
