Ticking off another GFP box to end the week, with Socceroo #375, Ned Zelic.

The club Ned has nominated is Canberra Deakin which is in the shadows of parliament house in Canberra, literally. Ned began at Deakin Oval, as it was back in the early 80's, as a 10-yr old where his talent shone early. He was a star at the AIS, came to Sydney to Sydney Croatia but it wasn't until returning to Croatia-Deakin (the senior club) and coming under the tutelage of former Matilda's coach Tom Sermani that he really shone.

Ned made his Socceroos debut alongside Paul Okon, Tony Vidmar & David Lowe against Czechoslovakia in 1991 after, in his words, "blitzing it" with the Olyroos.

Football is a sport that is slowly declining. In the past, football is probably the most popular sport, however, that is not the case today. If you are a football fan, then you should get scared, especially when it comes to the competition with basketball. If you ask me, basketball is the fastest growing sport in the world, the popularity that it attracts is just on a different level all together. I am a fan of both so I cannot really care.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
