Its been a while, but the Matildas are back on the board.
Michelle Watson, Matilda #83 has nominated Sydney's Crest SC, now known as Bankstown Strikers, as her GrassRoots club.
Starting out at Crest she then made her mark at Marconi going to the AIS and working her way through the Nat.Youth set-up.
Michelle won 18 caps starting with her debut against Japan in 1994, a year of massive change in the national team. Persistent knee injuries forced her out of a longer career, 5 ops in all. She was a member of our first Women's World Cup Finals team in 1995.
Michelle's dad still coaches with the club and her ties with GrassRoots football are strong, playing even now with Julie Murray & Sunni Hughes in the Sutherland Shire Senior Womens comp.
