Socceroo #399 is appropriately enough the 399th to nominate his GrassRoots club.
Matthew Bingley has named Merrylands SFC as his GrassRoots club. Having started playing at Merrylands Park as a 6 year old, Matthew stayed with the club till the age of 12 when the rep system took him away.
Under the guidance of his father Bob, Matt followed in the footsteps of his brother who went through the Merrylands grades with another Socceroo Aytek Genc.
Matt made his Socceroo debut in 1993 off the bench in the friendly loss to Sth. Korea and would go on to win 14 caps in all, scoring 5 times in the process. He was nominated for Marconi's greatest side of its first 40 years and played at the centre of the defence for the Sydney FC side that won the inaugural A-League title.
