Socceroo #299 is Mark Brusasco, a man with one of the more interesting stories to tell in the modern game.
Mark has nominated The Gap Pastime Club from Brisbane's NW suburbs as his GrassRoots club & in doing so he joins Matilda Ellen Beaumont.
Mark made his one and only Socceroo appearance off the bench in the 1980 Oceania Natons Cup game against PNG as one of 7 debutants in Rudi Gutendorf's re-building of the national team.
The big Brisbane city striker is probably the only Socceroo to also represent in another code as he was a member of the Qld Schoolboys Rugby Union side.
Its a pleasure to welcome the Deputy Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar aboard.

We really admire successful people who never forget who are the people that has been with them when they first started doing what they now do best. They say if one doesn't know how to look back where he came from, he won't reach his destination. He will not get anywhere in life. I myself wouldn't be where I am today if not for my mentors and colleagues who gave me a quick lift when I badly needed it. These are the reasons why we should try to make our success systematic and sustainable by sharing what we know to others through grassroots advocacies.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
