Today we add our 350th name to the GrassRoots Football Project family. To mark the occasion Matilda #138, Lydia Williams, has joined Amy Taylor in naming Tuggeranong United SC, one of the largest clubs in the A.C.T as her GrassRoots club.
Lydia came over from WA as an 11yr old playing in a mixed team @ Tuggies. At 12 she found herself deputising in goal, saved a penalty, and from there, as they say, the rest is history.
Under the stewardship of Bill Stewart she flourished and made her green & gold debut only 5 years later in a friendly against Sth. Korea in 2005 and is now a veteran of 3 World Cup campaigns with well over 50 caps to her name.
Lydia was a delightful lady to chat with & judging by her relationship with young Wanderers custodian Jada Whyman, she will be a fine mentor herself one day.
