Socceroo #219, John Doyle, has nominated Newcastle's Blacksmiths as his GrassRoots club.
Blacksmiths, a southern beachside suburb, merged with neighbours Swansea Belmont who still play out of the original Blacksmiths Oval.
Born in Ireland, John is pictured here in his 1973 season at Pan Hellenic. He would go on to forge a formidable career in junior coaching & played a leading role in shaping the career of a young Tim Cahill. He still coaches future stars today in Cronulla and was in charge of the Matildas in 1989's Oceania Cup.
