John Anderson, former Sth. Melbourne winger learned his footballing skills at Renfrew High on the outskirts of Glasgow, spent 4 years at Stoke before eventually making his way to Melbourne and in 1965 earned his national team call-up as a member of the very first Australian squad to battle for a place in the World Cup finals.
John was the oldest member of the touring squad and one of eleven debutants in Australia's first full international in 7 years, the all important WC qualifier against Nth Korea in Phnom Penh. In all Anderson was capped 5 times, 4 of which were during the 1965 tour.
Welcome aboard John. That's his head at bottom left of the Hellas poster.
