Jim Patikas

It has been a few days since our last post so let's break the drought with a biggie, shall we.
The next to nominate his GrassRoots club is Socceroo #314, Jim Patikas.
Jimmy has named Apia Leichhardt as his GrassRoots club & in doing so becomes the 5th player to name the club from Lambert Park, bringing them level with Melbourne's Altona City as the 2nd most represented club on the list at this point.
Jim started with a year at the Police Boys club under the eye of his dad Aris & then at Apia under legend Fil Bottalico.
His side at one stage included 3 future Socceroos and 10 of the squad would play NSL. He fondly recalls coming up again Shire side Gwawley Bay in a Champion of Champions final and had their hands full containing a very young Graham Arnold.
Jim was a member of the illustrious inaugural World Youth side and made his full debut in 1981 the same year as the WY Finals held here in Australia.
Jim has for the last 20 years also given back to the GrassRoots game by coaching at Inter Lions in Sydney's inner west and at Sydney Olympic so it is indeed a pleasure to add his name to our honour board.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
