Jim joins Bob Bignall in having Corrimal, from the northern suburbs of Wollongong, confirmed as his GrassRoots club.
The striker played the bulk of his junior football with the club from Memorial Park as he lived only about 100m from the ground. However, in 1942, "Hambone" was poached by local rivals Woonona-Bulli, moved to Woonona, married a local girl & made his name with the club.
Jim made the first of his 8 appearances for Australia alongside club-mates Charlie Stewart & Ted Drain in the first test of the 1947 series against Sth. Africa, the same game as the legend that is Joe Marston.
My thanks for Melva Stewart & Nev Arrowsmith for helping to put the pieces together.
