Welcome aboard gentlemen.
Another father & son Socceroo combination has named their GrassRoots club. Jason van Blerk, Socceroo #367 has nominated the Greenacre Soccer Club playing out of Allum Park in Sydney's "inner" west, as his GrassRoots club. Jason is the son of Cliff #190, who nominated the Queens Club in Bulawayo, from what was then Rhodesia, as his GrassRoots club. The van Blerks join the Davidsons & Hendersons as the only father/son combinations to have nominated, Jason earning 22 caps from 1990 & Cliff played against the Scots in 1967.
Welcome aboard gentlemen.

Jason and Cliff van Blerk is one of the most talented Australian football stars. I saw some of their plays on television and I can truly say that they are the best. I'm sure that Jason van Blerk truly supported his son Cliff in his career in football. But for me, Jason is better than his son. Whenever Jason play on the field, his ball plays astonish the viewers. I hope that his son continues his legacy in football.

the authorGreg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website. |
