Good things come to those who wait. I have been sitting on this post for almost 2 years hoping to find a GrassRoots photo & after reffing at Gymea last Saturday and having a casual conversation with the right person, here we are.
Matilda #16 is the latest to reveal her GrassRoots club.
Jamie Rosman is one of the youngest to ever wear the green and gold being capped at 15 on the first tour of NZ in 1980 after being spotted playing for Gymea Utd in the Sutherland Shire comp in southern Sydney and coming through the state & national championships. She was one of 3 locals selected in the very first official Matildas squad.
The defender went on to play for a number of other local outfits and went on to form one of the first women's AFL clubs in Sydney.
My thanks to both Jamie's Mum Jan for putting us together and to Gymea for the only girls team pic they had, it just happened to be the right one.
