Following in the footsteps of Jason van Blerk, Burns, at the time of writing CEO for the Perth Glory, began his playing days at Allum Park as a 7-year old coming up through the club to make the Bankstown Rep level and then graduating into the Sydney Olympic set-up & St.George where he came under the tutelage of Socceroo legend Manfred Schaefer.
Burns would win the first of his 11-caps from the bench in Australia's last game of the year 2000, a friendly against Scotland. Jacob was playing alongside fellow Socceroos Mark Viduka & Harry Kewell at Leeds Utd at the time gaining starts at both EPL & Champions League level,
Burns was enticed home to play for the Glory in the HAL making him one of a select club to play at both NSL & HAL level and winning the prestigious Joe Marston medal in the 2012 grand final in a losing side.
