From Sydney's near west comes the second Socceroo to name Greenacre SC as his GrassRoots club and Jacob Burns, Socceroo #454, is that player.

Following in the footsteps of Jason van Blerk, Burns, at the time of writing CEO for the Perth Glory, began his playing days at Allum Park as a 7-year old coming up through the club to make the Bankstown Rep level and then graduating into the Sydney Olympic set-up & St.George where he came under the tutelage of Socceroo legend Manfred Schaefer.

Burns would win the first of his 11-caps from the bench in Australia's last game of the year 2000, a friendly against Scotland. Jacob was playing alongside fellow Socceroos Mark Viduka & Harry Kewell at Leeds Utd at the time gaining starts at both EPL & Champions League level,

Burns was enticed home to play for the Glory in the HAL making him one of a select club to play at both NSL & HAL level and winning the prestigious Joe Marston medal in the 2012 grand final in a losing side.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
