Born at Helensburgh, Smith had made a huge name for himself by the age of 16 with the Coledale Rosebuds when he was signed by Illawarra powerhouse, Corrimal. Smith would go on to captain the famous reds and white before signing for St.George in 1935, after the strain travel & shift for the police force took its toll.
Smith made his debut at centre forward in the first test at the Brisbane Exhibition Ground in 1933 against the old enemy NZ, bagging a brace to make the day all the more memorable.
In all, Smith would play only 6 times in full internationals but would bag 16 goals along the way making him our very best goal getter per game and should put him high on the list of most memorable players, let alone what he did for football in the St.George district of Sydney.
