One of the final pieces of the 1965 Phnom Penh puzzle has fallen into place with the addition of Geoff Sleight, Socceroo #172.
Like those before him, the UK raised Geoff played the bulk of his junior football for school sides, first at Royston Junior, then Normanton Grammar in Yorkshire. After signing for Barnsley at 16 he represented his county & England Schoolboys alongside both Peter Taylor & Howard Wilkinson.
Geoff came to Australia in Feb '64 to play for Prague and made his 2 appearances for Australia in 1965 in the nation's first attempt to qualify for a World Cup.
Though living back in Yorkshire now he watches the A-League, follows the came closely & as one-time chief scout for Leeds was instrumental in signed Harry Kewell as a teenager.
