Alagich, is one of the great family names in Australian football and Dianne, Matilda #89, is the latest to be added to the GFP list, but the sole "Capped" Australian representative of this great family.

It is fitting that the club Dianne has named as her GrassRoots club is one of the great clubs of South Australia, the Pirates of Port Adelaide Soccer Club which has well over 100 years of history behind it. Di also has joined Moya Dodd in naming Port as her grassroots club.

Starting at the age of 10 & for her entire grassroots career, Di was the sole female in her side in a boys competition, something which moulded her, but also something for which she is eternally grateful to the club for backing her.

Di won the first of her 86 caps in the Australian defence against Norway in 1997 as a 16 year old and was a member of the Matildas side that competed in the 2000 Olympics.

Jo, Colin, Marin, Richie & Richard Alagich all have their place in the  footballing landscapes of Sth Australia & NSW but it is to Dianne that we dips our lid & look forward to the next generation.

Greg Werner began playing in 1965, with the GrassRoots club of Socceroo skipper Murray Barnes, a change of suburb at age 6 and a new club, one that would become the GrassRoots club of Rob Wheatley & after a 27 year hiatus came back to playing with the GrassRoots club of Socceroos Steve Perry, Richie Bell, Chris Iconomidis & Matilda, Justine Fisher, one could say that the links with the NT are ingrained.
At age 55, when his body gave up on playing, he took up the whistle to stay actively involved. In November of 2014 he created the GFP on Facebook to fill the void left by those in control of the game & in January 2016 launched this website.
