Joe's GrassRoots Football was played, as so many others from the UK did, at school, at Kirkland High School in East Fife, Scotland. He earned an apprenticeship at 16, at Nottingham Forest before becoming a fully fledged professional at Dundee where, in his Mum's words, "he played Archie Gemmill off the park" in his first match against Celtic.
Joe emigrated in 1973 playing over 250 games in the Eastern Suburbs sky blue & featuring in the famous final game for Johnny
Warren. He was one of the game's true characters, making his debut for his adopted country against the Kiwis in 1979.
Thanks Kev, be proud, a grand footballer, a good man & sadly missed.
