Young Charlie played with the Rechabites club at Granville Park in Merrylands, an outfit long since gone, at a ground more linked to the Parramatta Rugby club, in Sydney's west, but Charlie was a star.
As a youngster he represented at Soccer, "Rugger", cricket & was a star swimmer, but as an adult he starred for Cumberland with both bat & ball against the likes of Bradman and the stars of Australian cricket in the heyday of the game and more importantly for us, with Granville at fullback.
Thanks to GDSFA for the Rechabites team pic, sadly just before Charlie's time.
The "Nurse Cup" was the Sydney Under 18 Comp, the trophy donated by a Mr. Harry Nurse nad it was renamed the Fernleigh Cup after Balmain-Fernleigh won it in for a 3rd time in 1919.
