A week ago, at the Greece game, I had the pleasure of meeting today's nominator, Brett Emerton. Brett, Socceroo #433, joins Matilda's legend Sarah Walsh in nominating Gunners FC from the Sydney suburb of Macqarie Fields as his GrassRoots club.
Bensley Road in the Mcarthur region of Sydney's south-west was Brett's home before he made his name at Sydney Olympic & then at Feyenoord (including UEFA Cup Final) & Blackburn.
He made his Socceroo debut as an 18yr old in the friendly loss to Chile in 1996, but would go onto the heights of 2 World Cups and 94 caps in all.
It is rare for a club to spawn 2 internationals, but to produce a pair of such status is amazing. Congratulations Gunners & welcome aboard Brett.
