Bill was a product of the Bluebells of West Wallsend, the first since the Maunder brothers to emerge from Johnson's Paddock.
Bill was our 6th captain and led the side in the series against the famed touring Indian side who made their mark when a number of players took the field without boots.
This was the only sanctioned series Bill played in, though he did front for the SCG match against the Palestinian side in 1939.
